Visa Funds Gap Calculator

Enter the requirement, what you hold now, what you can save each month and the months until you apply. The calculator shows the gap and the date it closes.

Gap today—
Projected funds at application—
Months needed to close the gap—

The requirement is set by the authority for your route and can change before you apply. It may also be converted at a rate the authority specifies, so keep a margin for exchange-rate movement.

Compare the gap with the calendar

A gap is only useful with a deadline. Divide the gap by the monthly saving to see how many months it takes, then compare that with the months until the application. If the second number is larger than the first, the plan has slack; if not, the gap has to be closed another way.

The projected balance assumes steady saving and no withdrawals. A realistic plan also allows for the application costs, which are spent from the same account and are not part of the balance the authority counts.

Keep the requirement current

Requirements are revised, and a consulate can ask for more than the national headline. Re-run the calculation when the rule changes or when the exchange rate moves materially, and write down the date you checked.

If the gap is being closed with a gift or a loan, check whether the route accepts it and what evidence of source it requires. Money that appears shortly before the application can raise questions rather than answer them.

Frequently asked questions

Should the gap include application fees?

Keep them separate. Fees are spent, not held, so they reduce the balance available for the funds test. Budget them on top of the requirement.

What if I cannot save every month?

Use a conservative average and re-run the calculation. A plan built on the best month fails in a normal one.

Does a negative gap mean nothing to do?

It means the balance is above the requirement today. Check the seasoning rule and the projected balance at the application date before concluding that the evidence is ready.
